August 5, 2011

Kids swam in the pool this morning and we left the Sol Duc Resort. Enjoyed Madison Falls which was close to the parking lot. The lower level of the pool from the falls was easy to access. Andrew found a steep trail up the opposite side of the falls created his own adventure trail. He took his brother for a second trip. We visited the Ranger Station and got a recommendation for the Griff Trail which was a very steep 26 switchback trail one way (Andrew counted). The view of Mt. Olympus, Lake Mills, and the clouds at eye level were fabulous at the rock lookout (1,875 feet). While the trail was easier going down it was still tough.
We were hungry after our hike and drove into Port Angeles for dinner. Had the best ever meal at Bella's Italia. The highlight was the salmon with yogurt, cucumber, and dill sauce with risotto. Oh so yummy- a meal not to forget.
Staying at the Crescent Lake Lodge tonight. Crescent lake is huge and we have a great view from our room. The sun has been out again today, but it is breezy and coolish next to the lake. Bill and I walked to the Marymere Falls this evening while the children rested with their books. The falls had an impressive elevation change and the walk was good after our yummy meal.
